Trauma therapy

Online therapy throughout North Carolina

Your past keeps showing up in your present in the form of painful memories and triggers. Past traumatic experiences may have left deep wounds, but they don’t have to define your future. You want to move forward, and aren't sure how.

You might benefit from trauma therapy if...

  • You find yourself avoiding places or people that remind you of past trauma.
  • You have difficulty trusting others, leading to feelings of isolation or detachment from loved ones.
  • You feel overwhelmed by sadness, anger, or fear.
  • You have a loud inner critic, or have strong feelings of shame or guilt.
  • You experience physical symptoms like chronic fatigue, stomach issues, or headaches that seem linked to stress or trauma.
  • You always scan your environment to see if it's safe.

As we work together, you will:

  1. Explore how past trauma affects your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
  2. Identify coping strategies that protected you in the past but now hinder growth.
  3. Learn grounding techniques and self-soothing practices to regulate emotions.
  4. Process past traumas so they don’t have the same strong emotional effect on you anymore.
  5. Learn how to feel safe in your body and your environment, even when things feel uncertain.
  6. Move forward with a greater sense of empowerment.

How I'll support you.

EMDR uses eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to help your brain process and make sense of distressing memories. When you experience trauma, those memories can get "stuck" and continue to cause emotional pain. EMDR helps to "unstick" these memories, allowing your brain to process them in a way that reduces their emotional charge. Over time, this can help you feel less affected by past trauma and more in control of your emotions.

IFS understands that we all have different parts of ourselves, like angry, vulnerable, or hurt parts. When we experience trauma, these parts can get trapped in painful patterns or try to protect us in ways that aren't helpful anymore. In IFS, you work with these parts to understand them better, heal old wounds, and help them feel safe. The goal is to bring out your true, calm, and compassionate self, allowing you to heal and move forward in a healthier way.

Psychodynamic therapy helps with trauma processing by exploring how past experiences continue to affect how you think, feel, and act today. It focuses on understanding emotions or patterns you might not be fully aware of. By exploring your past and recognizing how it shapes your present, you gain insight into your reactions and can foster a resilience and autonomy.

Your past doesn’t determine what’s possible now.
